    For nearly two decades, the Whitehall Saddle Club Wreath Auction has shown the true giving nature of the local community with money raised going to the local food pantry and area nonprofit organizations.     With 2018 just a few days away, there is plenty of local news to look back on that took place during 2017 in Whitehall and the surrounding areas. In a special election November 7, local voters approved the formation of the Jefferson Valley Rural Ambulance District in the Whitehall area. According to Jefferson County Election Administrator Bonnie Ramey, the rural ambulance district was approved by a vote of 372 to 188. The district does not include the Town limits of Whitehall.     The Jefferson Local Development Corporation will be looking for a new Co-Manager in 2018. At a meeting earlier this month, Tom Harrington said that fellow JLDC Co-Manager Micky Zurcher had taken a new job in Helena and her last day with the organization was December 8. According to the JLDC, two Montana State University Extension Agents serve as Co-Managers focusing on community and economic development. Zurcher started with the JLDC in January of 2016.   • Local residents named to 2018 Shrine Bowl Roster

    Four local athletes were named to the roster for the 2017 Montana East West Shrine Bowl Game in Great Falls. Whitehall seniors Wyatt Alexander and Dawson Hoerauf were both selected to the West team. Alexander will play receiver and Hoerauf will play offensive guard at the game that will take place July 21. Senior Braden Smith was selected to the West squad as an alternate at the linebacker position.     The Whitehall High School wrestling team ended 2017 in spectacular fashion. All nine of the Trojans wrestlers competing were able to pick up a victory in a varsity dual victory over Anaconda.     There have been plenty of positives in the first six games of the season for the Whitehall High School boys basketball team. The Trojans will enter the 2018 portion of their schedule with a 4-2 record that includes an impressive 71-52 season opening win over Manhattan Christian.     The Whitehall High School girls basketball was able to pick up two wins in the pre Christmas portion of the their schedule. The Lady Trojans (2-4) were victorious 46-41 over Manhattan Christian and also notched a 52-49 overtime win at the Manhattan Tip Off Tournament.     The caring spirit of the local community showed last week at the Whitehall Area Food Pantry. Last Monday, volunteers from the Trivent Action Team made a donation to the pantry. Volunteer Edie French said they were able to donate $250 that was used to help with Christmas Food Boxes.
