Date set for Hall of fame ceremony

A date has been set for the induction ceremony for the Whitehall High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2017.

The ceremony will take place Saturday, March 25 starting at 6 p.m. at Whitehall High School. The 2017 event will mark the second class inducted into the Hall of Fame. The inaugural class was honored at an event in February of 2016.

The Class of 2017 will feature 11 individual members and five teams. The class includes Hiney P. Lund, Rick Shaw, Patty Patacini, T.J. Nelson, Mike Hedegaard, Roger Sacry, Mark Joy, Nathan Reiff , Darby Jones, Trenna Loomis, the 1940 football team, the 1976 girl’s basketball team, the 1980 and 1984 wrestling teams and the 1997 girl’s volleyball team and longtime supporter of Whitehall athletics Erv Hedegaard.

Hall of Fame President Mike Hedegaard is asking anyone who may be in contact with members of the team to pass along information to them about the March 25th event.

“If you were a member of any of these teams listed above, please assist the Board by helping us contact as many of your team members so that they might join us in the ceremony,” Hedegaard said.

NOMINATION

INFORMATION

With the Hall of Fame just in its second year, many local residents have inquired about how to nominate athletes, coaches, or teams. Below i an excerpt from the official White-hall High School Athletic Hall of Fame Bylaws.

“A candidate may be nominated for Hall of Fame membership by any member of the community (anyone can nominate). Formal nominations are made using the nomination form made available to the public on the WHS website (http://whitehall.schoolwires. com/) under the “Whitehall Hall of Fame” link. The nomination form must be received by the board Chairperson by April 1st. Following nomination, an application packet will be sent to the nominator by the board Chairperson. Information relating to a nominee’s career statistics, records, achievements, etc. must be supported by accompanying documentation or sources cited so that the information may be verified independently. All application packets from the nominator must be received by the board Chairperson by June 1st of the nominating year, in order to be considered for election into the fall class. Both the nomination form and the application packet will be available through the Whitehall High School website.

Once presented as an eligible nominee, a candidate who is not elected will automatically be reconsidered annually until he/she has been considered for five years. Thereafter, re-nomination may occur at any time. The Chairperson will notify any nominator in writing if nominee is not selected.

Election Process:

The Board Members will meet in July in order to consider, review, and elect candidates. Background information on each nominee will be distributed to Board Members prior to the meeting and members familiarize themselves with the nominees prior to voting. Each Board Member shall have one vote and all votes shall carry equal weight.

In addition, all living individual members elected to the WHS Athletic HOF will also be voting members of the board and shall have one vote, carrying equal weight to the board members votes.

So, in a nutshell, we will induct the 2017 class on March 25th at WHS. Nominations for the 2018 class are due no later than April 1st, 2017. The nominator is responsible for completing and submitting the application packet to the Chairperson no later than June 1st, 2017. The board votes on all nominations in late July, 2017, for the class of 2018. I hope this information is helpful for all wondering “how does someone get nominated/elected/inducted into the WHS Athletic Hall of Fame.”
