March production above target at Barrick Golden Sunlight Mine

For the second straight month, the production numbers were above target at the Barrick Golden Sunlight Mine.

At the Community Transition Advisory meeting last week, Mine General Manager Dan Banghart reported the production for the month was 4,992 ounces, well above the target of 4,100. In February, the mine reported production of 5,076 ounces, compared to a target of 4,484.

The productions numbers may however drop in April. Banghart said they will start a shorter six-day mill run April 20, and the numbers should be lower. He said this would set them up for a bigger month of production in May.

Banghart said the Barrick employee numbers remain the same with 44 reporting to the site, as well as one regional Barrick employee.

He said they have had an increase in contract employees with a total of 94 at the mine in March.

While there was no third party ore processed in March, Banghart stated they have two suppliers they will be working with starting this week.

The mine also went another month without a reportable injury. Banghart said there were a few near misses, and they need to continue to find ways to improve safety.

Banghart added exploration activities at the mine started last week and American Drilling will be working underground. He said employees from the company have been going through safety and training in anticipation of the project.

Michael Brown, President of Barrick USA, was a special guest at the meeting last week. He said it was his first time attending the meeting and he would like other sites to look at having committees similar to CTAC.

Golden Sunlight Environmental Manager Chuck Buus reported they are starting work on a ten-acre reclamation project at the site. He added that students and officials from Montana Tech would also be working on a tree planting reclamation project.

Buus said he is looking forward to working with them and its good to have some local talent assist them.
