Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

For Your Information

Nonie Sacry told me once “If you have too much to do today, be thankful, and pray for those who have nothing to do.” Good advice and these past few weeks, I should have been praying a whole lot!!! The Special Election on Thurs. will be an interesting day. I know, my life isn’t any busier than most this time of year - I just suffer from lack of focus.

Every year the Cardwell students (or as they are often called in years gone by, scholars), have a Declamation Contest. This year it was held ‘on its own’ without being the end of the year, etc. Judges, Dannette Simon, Ruth Lott and Laurie Cook were presented with quality competition. From kindergarten through the 8th grade, some with wiggly, nervous demeanor, each one entertained the audience. It was a well attended function, but the winners won’t be announced until the last day of school when awards are presented.

Sarah Hughes has been hired as the replacement of Savannah Rossiter in the first and second grades and Ashley Todd will be the third and fourth grade teacher. Patty Hanley has assured me that she will still be involved with the school and with the final preparations for the 100th anniversary celebration scheduled for Sept. 2018. God’s blessings to both Patty and Savannah.

Something of great IMPORTANCE should be noted by all of the area residents. The Cardwell Post Office hours are changing hours that the window is open. It will soon open at 7:45 and close at 11:45!! The box section will continue to be accessible for 24 hours. There was no indication that the rural delivery would change. Just be aware that the four hours that you will be able to do business at the window is changing.

Dawn Huckaba and Deanna Smith went to Nampa, Idaho for some intense training for LOVE.INC. Deanna is the Director and Dawn is treasurer, etc. With much to learn to operate this ministry without it becoming a welfare system, this ‘schooling’ will equip them for the development of the work.

Break Away Youth Ranch had its ‘kick-off’ for the 2017 season with its Spring Fling. A hog roast with all of the trimmings was served, the kids enjoyed the freedom of the evening, and the jam session provided delightful entertainment for the remainder of the night. A full staff will be available for the many kids that come to Break Away to learn about Jesus, trust, and love. Horses are used in the process as each child learns not only how to ride, but how to take care of his or her animal. Love and trust is a two way street - the horse responds as well as the child. Other chores around the Ranch - cleaning the manure, pulling weeds in the flower beds and watering trees, etc.- teach the kids responsibility. Jesus had much to say about children. In Matthew, He said to “Let the little children come unto me and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Matt. 19:14 Have a blessed week and if you are too busy, remember to be thankful and pray for those who have nothing to do.
