Star sign gets makeover

For those who have taken a drive down Legion Avenue or been to a movie in the past several days, it would be hard not to have noticed the beautiful upgrade to the sign at the Star Theater in Whitehall.

Fixing the sign is something that Star Theater Manager Colton Anderson has always wanted to do. During Fronteir Days in 2016, he had a conversation with his father in law about making it look nice and possibly even putting just a coat of paint on it. He started scraping paint off after Frontier Days and said he ran out of time in 2016.

"I decided it needed to be one of my goals for the theatre this year. The marquee is really the centerpiece of town and it being in the shape it was in always made me feel like the eyesore of town," he said.

Anderson personally put in roughly 120 hours into the sign and said he has received great help from his brother and parents for the big projects like painting.

Anderson added Jim Sacry did a great job adding new LED lights to the sign making it brighter than ever.

He will continue working on the sign on a few things that need to be fixed, including one side of the neon lights that broke in 2014. He said finding someone who can fix that has been a challenge.

"Eventually the Star will be lit up with lights as soon as those bulbs get in. All things considered I'm very pleased with how the sign turned out. I have never done a project like this, but thought to myself as long as I did some research and asked questions from people that know more than me about restoration I could produce a product the town can be proud of," Anderson said.
