JLDC honors local businesses

Local businesses were honored last Wednesday night in Whitehall at the Jefferson Local Development Corporation annual dinner and awards.

JLDC Co-Manager Tom Harrington addressed the crowd at the conclusion of the dinner, and thanked current members for their support. He said after the loss of 250 jobs at the MDC in Boulder, a big priority for JLDC in the past year has been in Boulder. He discussed the creation of the Boulder Transition Advisory Committee, adding the future is bright for the city with great things to come.

Harrington then presented certificates of appreciation to the Jefferson County Commissioners and Barrick Golden Sunlight Mine. Harrington said the Commission works hard for the benefit of the community, and the mine is a great community partner.

The 2017 Community Improvement award was presented to the Star Theater. The award is given to a business that has created pride in the community through interior or exterior improvements. Harrington talked about not only all of the hard work Colton Anderson has done to improve the theater, but all the time he spends donating money to local organizations.

The 2017 Innovative Business of the year was awarded to Utility Mapping Services of Clancy.

The 2017 Business of the year was awarded to the Boulder Monitor. The award is given to a business creating innovative or value-added products or services, or has an innovative business model.

Boulder resident Drew Dawson spoke about the extreme dedication David and Jan Anderson have given to the business, and how the paper is the information hub of Boulder.
