Shakespeare in the Park at Frontier Days

The 2018 Frontier Days Celebration in Whitehall will now include an additional popular annual event.

Chamber President Jan Thorne announced at last week's general meeting the Shakespeare in the Park performance of "Love's Labour's Lost" is scheduled for Friday, July 27 at 6 p.m. Chamber members are currently working to host the event in Legion Park.

Thorne said she was approached by the touring company and told they had an opening on the date and the only other time they could perform in Whitehall would be the Friday of Labor Day Weekend.

"I'm excited for it to be here our busy weekend," Thorne said.

Board member Kristi Wilson expressed concern over noise from semi trucks on Legion Avenue and the board decided to look at getting a permit for a detour as well as possibly using Whitehall High School as a backup if there is bad weather.

Thorne will be looking in the near future for a suitable place at the park to host the popular event that usually has an attendance of around 200.

"Love Labour's Lost" was first performed in 1597 and is known as one of Shakespeare's early comedies.
