"Lights On II: Re-Lit" next week

Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 17 for what should be an amazing night in Whitehall when residents of Liberty Place host their second annual "Lights On" concert and art exhibition.

The "Lights On II: Re-Lit" event is scheduled to begin with a drop-in art exhibition and Liberty Place Open House from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. at the Christensen School of Dance located next to the Star Theater on Legion Avenue. The concert will follow at 7 p.m. at the theater. The event is free of charge, but donations will be accepted and will go to support programming and the Liberty Place Arts Program.

Organizer David Parker said they are really excited about being able to host the event again, and appreciate those in the community who've rallied around to support them for another year.

He said the energy and feedback from the 2017 concert was incredible.

"It was truly a special night, as those who were there can attest to, and we're so grateful to the audience for their enthusiasm and the wonderful vibe it created," Parker said.

After a summer hiatus following the 2017 show, Parker said groups began meeting in mid-September to start the songwriting process.

"Unlike last year we're coming into this concert with all new material, so we've been busy. Also, it has always been my hope to involve members of the community, so without saying too much, we have a couple of surprises that I'm really excited about," he said. "And now that we have our new facility, Bootstrap Ranch, going strong in Belgrade, the music ensemble from there will be joining us as well. This concert experience will be a first for most of that group."

The art show will again be a mix of some visual art as well as some handwork and craft items. A selection of items will be for sale, and Parker also hopes to have some very collectible t-shirts for sale this year. There will also be some light refreshments available.

Parker said last year the art opening was at Borden's, and this year they decided to hold the entire event at the theater complex. Parker expressed thanks to Colton Anderson for use of the theater and Alyssa Christensen for opening up her dancing studio for the open house/art reception.
