Trojans impressive at Dillon meet

The Whitehall High School track team shined at last Saturday's Dillon Invite.

The Trojans boys team finished third out of 10 teams, finishing only behind Corvallis and host Beaverhead County.

"We had a great meet this weekend. We set up this meet a lot like how we are planning to compete at the district meet. Most of our athletes competed in four to five events today and were able to handle that load and that's what we were looking to see how that would be heading into districts," head coach Dan Lacey said.

Junior Max Feight finished in first place and broke a school record at the meet with a time of 15.84 in the 110-meter hurdles.

"I was very proud of Max on breaking our school record. He deserves it. He's a kid that puts in so much time in everything he does and he really pays attention to the little details that can help make him a better competitor. I'm excited to see how he continues to build on this time moving forward into postseason completion," Lacey said.

Feight also finished second in the 300-meter hurdles.

Senior Braden Smith had a strong day, finishing first in the triple jump and fourth in the 400 meters. Senior Wyatt Alexander finished fourth in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters. Junior Cade Briggs was seventh in the javelin, third in the long jump, and fourth in the triple jump.

Sophomore Madison Loomis was tenth in the 100 meters, ninth in the 200 meters, and sixth in the 400 meters.

The team will next compete Friday, May 11 at the District Track Meet in Belgrade.

"I'm extremely excited heading into postseason completion with our track team. Our district is loaded with tremendous talent and our athletes are right in the thick of it. It will be fun to see how everything lines out at the district meet," Lacey said. "Utilizing your athletes in multiple events is so crucial at the district meet when competing for a trophy. So it makes it kind of like a chess match with other schools on how to maximize your athletes. It should be a great day of competition and I'm excited to see how our athletes go out and compete," he said.

The Trojans opened the week at the John Cheek Top 8 Track and Field Meet in Anaconda. Briggs finished in first place in the long jump and was third in the triple jump.

Alexander finished third in the 100 and 200 meters. Steven Japhet was second in the 400 meters, Justin Gipson was second in the 800 meters, and Dawson Hoerauf was second in the shot put.

On the girl's side, Alexys Mercer was fourth in the discus and third in the shot put. Asha Noyes was third in the triple jump.
