Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Jefferson County Commission Update

Hi Folks,

At our regular meeting last week, we heard the quarterly Tax Increment Board update from Tom Harrington. Both of our Increment Districts are doing well. The one in the North County is almost sold out. This past year has seen a great amount of new building for new businesses. The South District will have a new building under construction within the next few weeks. There will also be a major water project going in for Golden Sunlight mine.

We awarded a bid for a couple of small paint jobs at the Fairgrounds. We approved the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commission by-laws. We also approved Resolution 16-2018 which distributes the Metalliferous Mines License Tax.

I have had an interesting past few weeks. A couple of weeks ago, I got to visit with Senator Daines in Whitehall. On the Fourth of July, I visited with Senator Tester in Boulder. Then last Thursday, I went to Great Falls to see President Trump. That was an interesting experience. We spent about four hours in line. I got to talk with a lot of different people during that time, ranging from a young lady who had lost a leg as a child and thought that the Trump Tax Plan had been wonderful for her to a couple of General Contractors who said that their business outlook is the best it has been in over twenty years.

The crowd was huge. I think there were about 6,600 people inside the Four Seasons Arena and several thousand who didn’t get in. I talked to one person from Whitehall who said that they started out in line close to a mile from the arena. They were not able to make it inside.

FYI: French writer, Voltaire; “I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it.”
