It was like a bee hive during the work in progress at Powell’s Barn Raising. Items from the loft were being cleaned, windows were being restored to be authentic, various wood projects were being scraped in readiness for finishing, along with painting and nail pulling. Got a call from Patty Strozzi this week. She recently moved to Bozeman after sometime of trying to sell her house on North Whitehall Street. She had to tell me about shopping at Maurice’s and meeting one of my granddaughters, Angelica Shaw, who had just recently became a manger. It was a great experience, she said. An enthusiastic group met to get the Cardwell 100th Anniversary celebration plans started. The Cardwell School has been reserved for August 4, 2018 to commemorate this milestone. With the date secured, the work finding former students and getting other arrangements made, will be the big push. Other volunteers are welcome to join the work. The Cardwell School Board considered policies and budgets during the regular meeting. Down McKeown Lane is a wonderful old house and out buildings that belong to Scott and Tracie Cornwall. Over the years, Tracie has put a foundation under the old house, done some landscaping and at present, Scott is in the process of refurbishing the barn. Tracie told me some time ago that her investigation of the property indicated that the house had actually had school held in part of it. Recently, Tracie turned 60 years old! It was just a week ago that Lydia’s was the scene of a very surprised Janet Shaw Powley when her family had arranged dinner for many friends and relatives. After tears of gratitude and hugs from her four kids and their spouses, she seemed delighted with the celebration. Even the sign advertising Lydia’s was blinking ‘Happy 80th Birthday, Janet’. July 4th is a special day for many reasons, not the least of which is Karen and Kerry Sacry’s wedding anniversary and Dr. Steve Sacry’s birthday. It has become an annual event to have the Sacry clan get together on that day to celebrate family. This year was no different. Summer is officially here! The school buses aren’t running and the playground is quiet. The final day of school was NOT quiet and the weather was perfect. Awards were presented for the Declamation Contest. Winner in the Kindergarten was Alexis Redfield; First and Second, Evan Welch; Third and Fourth, Ethan Wock; Fifth and Sixth, Levi Whitehurst; and Seventh and Eighth, Katie Whitehurst. Five eighth grade graduates took their places on the platform at the Cardwell Gym to be honored for the completion of nine years of learning. The graduating students were Katie Whitehurst, Marta Nelson, Anna Nelson, Wyatt Biggers and Brodie Becker. Wyatt Biggers was the only one of the five that was a student at Cardwell all nine years. I saw a really cute picture on Facebook. It was Kyle Glaus hanging onto a tree with his fiancé, Krista, pulling on his legs. The caption reads, “The Hunt is Over”. A trip of a lifetime! Kyra Armstrong's school, Montana Wilderness School of the Bible, scheduled a tour of Israel. She joined the 30 other folks and after flying into Tel Aviv, spent the following week in the land where Jesus lived. Problems kept them from Bethlehem, but two days in Jerusalem will not be forgotten. Kyra said without hesitation that her favorite place was the Garden of Gethsemane. Had an occasion to visit Wagner’s Nursery in Butte and what an experience! When I need a ‘flower fix’ , that is the place to go. The flowers are so beautiful - and the fragrance, Wow! It couldn’t have been a more perfect morning for God to display His power and majesty. The 70 to 80 people that gathered on Sunrise Hill for Easter Sunrise Services didn’t have to brave the elements and they didn’t have to wait long for the sun rays to flood the clear, blue sky. Scholars at the Cardwell School began the first of six weeks of the Montana Outdoor Science School. This program provides opportunities for the kids with hands on learning. With that in mind, the school will be having a Science Fair on Wednesday, April 26th. Participants are the 5th through 8th grades. There is a genealogy society that meets the third Thursday each month to gain knowledge and learn about resources available to dig for information not only for themselves, but for others looking for the past histories of their families.
