The Whitehall Sustainability Committee (WSC), with oversight from Golden Sunlight Mine, was formed in 2022 to help Golden Sunlight rank community projects in the Whitehall area by a local advisory group. The project funding cycle is once again open and accepting project proposals until February 1, 2023. In 2022 the WSC funded $135,000 worth of projects in the form of the upcoming playground on Legion Avenue and the upcoming daycare facility next to the Whitehall Schools. JANUARY 28, 1998 Whitehall school student academic test scores were higher than the Montana average and substantially higher than the national average. Test scores released from the Montana Office of Public Instruction showed Whitehall students consistently performed better than other U.S. and Montana students in reading, language arts, math, science and social studies. On Thursday, January 19 the Trojans took on the Anaconda Copperheads and, unfortunately, were defeated. The men were wiped out 71 - 40; the ladies however held strong but lost 48-42. The Whitehall High School wrestling team traveled to Townsend to compete in the Montana B-C Duals over the weekend. This 16 team tournament included the top five teams in the state. Friday's competition consisted of pool play; Whitehall wrestled each of the members of their pool, beating Columbus 64-10, Eureka 36-34, and Red Lodge 48-24. Whitehall Little Guy and Junior High wrestling signups will be held at the Whitehall High School cafeteria from 4 to 5:30 PM on Friday, January 27. The Montana High School Association has amended its rules for co-ops, announcing Thursday that any schools whose combined enrollment exceeds the maximum limit for a class will compete in the next class up. The decision was made at the MHSA's annual meeting on Monday, January 16 in Missoula. Surrounded by his family, Loren Steven Willet passed away on January 8th, 2023, at the age of 66 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. Loren was born July 16th, 1956, to Harvey and Leona Willet. Loren grew up in Washington, but after a short stint in the Marine Corps as a young man, he moved to Montana, which he called home.
