HELENA -- One of the final bills the Montana Legislature passed before adjourning would create a special state fund for major public school repairs. Senate Bill 307 would, among other things, allow school districts to temporarily raise property taxes -- without putting it on a ballot -- in order to meet a state match for these repairs. This Saturday competitors will descend upon Whitehall for the longest running youth rodeo in the Treasure State. The BY’s 4-H Club Youth Rodeo is scheduled to take place May 6 at the Whitehall Rodeo Grounds. The grand entry is slated to begin at 9:45 a.m. The cost to attend the rodeo is $3. Event organizer Tara Price said this will be the 55th BY’s 4-H rodeo, and they will be giving out buckles to first place and all around winners. There were plenty of positives for the Whitehall High School track team at last week's Manhattan Christian Invite in Bozeman. The boys team finished third out of 12 teams with 81 points. They finished just behind second place Bozeman High School, who had 86. Broadwater County High School finished in first place with 115 points. The Whitehall High School tennis team was able to battle against some fierce competition at last week's Dawg Bite Tennis Tournament. The Lady Trojans, along with Townsend and Boulder hosted the two-day event. Whitehall competed last Friday against Chester-Joplin-Inverness and Granite High Schools, and Saturday against Poplar, Simms, and Lone Peak. Whew! That is about all I can say about how fast this year has flown past. I cannot believe that we are already in May. This is a very busy time of year in the school realm. We are finishing up with testing and grade-level curriculum, the kids have their field trips throughout the month, the Elementary Spring Concert is on the 16th at 7:00 pm, our K-5 track meet is coming up on the 22nd starting at 10:00 am, (weather permitting) and by the end of the month we are out of school.
