The Whitehall Town Council voted 4 to 1 to approve a new lease with Community Beacon of Hope Inc. (CBOH) at a special meeting Monday night. Alderman Joe Adams was the lone vote against the updated lease agreement. Prior to the vote, Adams said one of the main reasons he was voting no is “I consider it blackmailed to shut up, otherwise the town’s going to get sued or I am going to get sued for libel and I don’t like to be threatened. For the second consecutive month there was increase in the number of full time employees at the Barrick Golden Sunlight Mine. At the Community Transition Advisory Committee meeting last week, General Manager Dan Banghart reported there were two new full time employees at the mine. He said the number of full times employees at the mine is now 50. The number had been 44 in May. There is one regional Barrick employee, and 84 contract employees currently at the site. Earlier this month, I was walking back to the Ledger from the post office when something caught my attention. I was a little past the Star Theater when I saw a baby kitten curled up in the shade. The weather had been nearing 100 on the day and the poor thing looked miserable. During the summer months as a kid I would spend day after day at the local golf course. I would golf with my Dad, friends, grandpa, or other family members. Sometimes I would get a ride to the course and golf with random strangers. So much for stranger danger. My Dad would like to get up at 5:30 a.m. and we would be on the course by six. I'm sure most kids don't want to get up that early during the summer, but we were there to get nine holes in before most people were at work. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather George Allen "Casey" McLean, 90, of Whitehall was called home, Thursday, July 13, 2017. Allen was born at the family homestead in Norris, Montana on October 1, 1926 to George and Arvilla McLean. His grade school years were spent at Norris grade school, and he started high school in Philipsburg. Hi Folks, At last week’s regular meeting, we approved a Large Group Function Permit for Rockin’ the Rivers, contingent on the Sanitarian giving her final approval. We decided to purchase a building on Main Street in Boulder that is owned by Goldfields mining and Montana Tunnels. The cost of the building will be used to offset some of the delinquent taxes that are owed from Montana Tunnels. We voted to put a lot that we acquired on tax deed in Basin several years ago up for sale. The lot will be appraised and then put in the paper to take bids....
July 4th is a special day for many reasons, not the least of which is Karen and Kerry Sacry’s wedding anniversary and Dr. Steve Sacry’s birthday. It has become an annual event to have the Sacry clan get together on that day to celebrate family. This year was no different. High water temperatures and low stream flows have prompted Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to implement “hoot owl” restrictions on several rivers in Southwest Montana starting Wednesday, July 19. This includes the entire Jefferson River.
