  • Sullivan reflects on time in Whitehall

    Jack H. Smith, Whitehall Ledger|Jul 31, 2019

Just two days prior to his retirement, Whitehall Schools Superintendent John Sullivan spent his time Monday helping to paint the old and worn concession stand on campus. His last few moments in the position were indicative of his five-year tenure and a profound attitude to leave the district better then he found it. "I have said this many times; no one person is bigger than the whole, or bigger than the job. Just because I was the superintendent didn't mean I couldn't mow the grass, shovel the snow, or sweep the gym floor. I hope I have set an...

  • COLUMN: Catfish

    Jack H. Smith, Whitehall Ledger|Jul 31, 2019

A few of my summer breaks during college I was lucky enough to get a really good construction job that really helped me with my expenses. I also had a few summers where it was very difficult to find a job that didn't involve fast food. While I wouldn't really say I loved being outside 12 hours a day with a jackhammer or shovel, the money in construction was great and I had one heck of a tan. When I turned 15 my first job was at a Wendy's and I'm still baffled how easy it was to get the job. I walked in with my completed application and handed...

    Catherine Ellerton, Contributing Writer|Jul 31, 2019

A desire to bring the local artists together and furnish a place where they could work and paint their visions, led to the creation of the "Painters In The Potting Shed." (PIPS) Janet Chapman approached Patsy Jensen about using her potting shed and the idea soon became a reality. This local art group meets once a week in the fall and winter and shares their creative ideas. Kerry Kraha joined forces with Michele Franich and Patsy Jensen and the first Jefferson Valley Fine Art Show became a...
