  • Man arrested after July 28 home invasion

    A 31-year-old was arrested in the early morning hours on July 28 following a home invasion in Whitehall. According to Jefferson County Sheriff Craig Doolittle, the department received a call at 4:55 a.m. from a resident on 2nd Street West who reported he had woken up and found someone in his bedroom. Doolittle said the resident detained the suspect and it was reported he had another person waiting outside in a vehicle.     Lova Rae Loomis, 74, of Whitehall, Montana passed away, Saturday, August 3, 2019 after battling an aggressive diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer. Lova was born on March 31, 1945, in Dillon, Montana to John Dee and Rachel (Lott) Cherry. She graduated from Lima High School in 1963, and graduated from Western Montana College in 1967. On July 6, 1968 she married James Larry Loomis in Lima, Montana. Lova was a dedicated, inspirational educator who touched many lives in the Whitehall School System.     On January 4th, 1945, Milton Neil Segmiller was born in Laurel, MT, the youngest son of Hertha (Dupke) and Michael Segmiller. He was born at home, delivered by a midwife who had to trudge through knee-deep snow to attend his birth; which was truly a blessing in so many ways. He attended schools in Laurel and Fromberg, Montana and obtained his GED in Helena. On August 15, 1964 he married Kyleen Cleveland, in Billings, MT. We started June 1st and have collected/released the following numbers so far: Mecinus janthiniformis (Dalmatian toadflax stem weevil, collected near Missoula and Helena): 4,100 = 41 releases.     A magical season came to an end last Wednesday for the Gallatin Valley Outlaws. The Outlaws finished their season with a heartbreaking 15-14 loss to host the Bitterroot Red Sox at the Montana/Alberta American Legion Class A State Tournament in Florence.
