  • Feight Readies For Spring Season

    Jack H. Smith, Whitehall Ledger|Oct 7, 2020

It would not be a stretch of the imagination to say Max Feight was one of the most gifted athletes to ever play at Whitehall High School. One might also argue he may have had a chance to prove he was the best to ever wear the Purple and Gold had it not been for a freak injury during the first quarter of the first game of his senior year that prevented him from helping him lead his to possible deep runs in the postseason in football and basketball, and a shot at an individual state title in the...

  • Guest Editorial: Galloping goats, biting gators and more in your local newspaper

    Dean Ridings|Oct 7, 2020

If you happened to read the Albuquerque Journal recently you would have learned about a family who used their (galloping) goats to gobble up weeds and earn some extra money while keeping the city's weeds and grass trimmed. In the Orlando Sentinel, you would have discovered that a man was attacked and bitten by an alligator while hunting near one of the local lakes. Neither of these stories are life-and-death issues, unless you happen to be the hunter, but they provide interesting glimpses into life in their communities. While these headlines...

Pat L. Lewis peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 27th, 2020 at Peace Hospice in Great Falls. Pat fought a long hard battle with heart problems, diabetes, and in the end, cancer. He blessed his parents Bob and Ruby Lewis of WA on April 16, 1947. As a child, Pat was a free spirit and full of a lot of mischief. He joined the army in 1965 at the age of 18 and was honorably discharged in 1971. In those 6 years of service, he became an Army Sargent and served in the Vietnam war. When he returned home he spent a lot of time with his sister...

  • Whitehall moves to 2-0 against rival Jefferson

    Jack H. Smith, Whitehall Ledger|Oct 7, 2020

The second verse was the same as the first for the Whitehall/Harrison High School football team. Playing against rival Jefferson High School for the second time in the first four games of the season, the Trojans once again used a stifling defensive performance to pick up their second win of the season against the Panthers with a 13-7 Friday night road win. Whitehall (2-2) also defeated Jefferson 18-6 at home in their season opener on September 4. "It's always fun playing a rival and to be able...

  • Lady Trojans learn from Jefferson game, face Manhattan Thursday

    Oct 7, 2020

While they were unable to walk away with a victory, Whitehall High School volleyball Head Coach Kyla Simon was proud of the effort from her team in last week's 25-23, 25-7, 25-20 loss to high-powered Jefferson High School. "The one thing I love about our team is that I never have to ask them to work hard. They always work hard without question and effort is never the issue. I am thankful for that. We had a lot of really long rallies with Jefferson which is great, most of them didn't end in our...

  • Our Town 100 Years Ago: Oct. 1920 Part 1

    Arlene Weber, Jefferson Valley Museum|Oct 7, 2020

Fall is a beautiful time of year in the Jefferson Valley. The cottonwood trees along the river have a golden glow from the changing leaves; the air has a crisper feel than just a month ago, and wearing a jacket is becoming more common. New people are moving to town and some are leaving in October 1920. We send wishes for improving health to longtime resident, businessman and former mayor Mr. A. J. McKay. Due to health issues, Mr. McKay is selling some of his land and his bungalow. This includes 22 acres east of town, the McKay and Carmichael bu...
