Special evening at Star Theater raises money for local charities

Forty-five minutes prior to show time there was already a long line beginning to form outside of the Star Theater in Downtown Whitehall.

While Friday night during the summer has always been a popular night to get out and see a blockbuster movie, this evening was a little bit different.

The crowd of 142 had not only gathered July 1 to see the theater's first showing of "Independence Day: Resurgence", the nights festivities also included a question and answer session with one of the films star's Bill Pullman. It was also a fundraiser for local organizations. According to theater operator Colton Anderson, the evening raised $575 through auction items, with the money going to the Whitehall Community Library and Community Pool.

"It was incredible to see the generosity of all the people who bid on the items to help out the library and pool," Anderson said. "It was a great night and I really appreciate Bill donating his time to come and do that for our town."
