Senior duo shines at last week's Butte Invitational

For the second straight week, the Whitehall High School Cross Country team went head to head with larger schools from across Southwest Montana last Saturday at the Butte Invitational.

Senior runner Hunter Flynn once again showed he is one of the best in the state finishing 19th out of 154 runners with a time of 16:19.50.

Sophomore Clancy Russell was the next Trojan to finish with a time of 18:34.10. Justin Gipson ended the race with a time of 19:25.60, Ryan Gipson finished the race at 19:40.00, Cade Briggs had a time of 22:06.90, Kadin Smith completed the race at 24:47.90 and Adrian Bright finished with a time of 25:10.07.

On the girl’s side, senior Ann Russell was able to secure a top 50 finish in the varsity race that featured 127 runners. She finished 49th with a time of 20:15.50.

Head Coach Kerry Sacry said it was a good time for Russell. Madison Loomis also had a good finish for the Trojans. The freshman placed 30th out of 200 runners in the junior varsity race with a time of 21:56.10.

Michael Reiff was the top placer for Whitehall in the middle school race. The sixth grader finished 74th out of 166 competitors with a time of 14:05.10. Other Trojans competing included, Gavin Watson (15:08.00), Dane Hoover (15:07.80), Karson Klapan (16:18.40), Avery Bright (18:27.60) and Kenzie Huglet (19:13.70).

In the girl’s race, Chloe Brown finished with a time of 21:13.70.

The Whitehall team will next compete at the 7 on 7 event Thursday in Helena.
