Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Senior night for Lady Trojans

The six seniors on the Whitehall High School volleyball team will be recognized at a ceremony prior to their Thursday matchup against Jefferson.

Alicia Loomis, Mesquite Melton, Kaya Welch, Rachel Smith, Katie Smith and Monica Sepulveda will all be playing their last home as members of the Lady Trojans.

"The six seniors have really made my first year easy. They bought into my crazy ideas and funky drills with no complaints. I was a little nervous as to how they would receive me, but it was all for naught," head coach Lauren McDonald said. "They really stand out as leaders, too. They care about their team as a whole as well as individually. Every day you can see several of them taking some if the younger girls under their wings and helping out. They lead by example - they take pride in their accomplishments and they are constantly searching for ways to improve. I'm really proud of how hard they work and how far they've come this year. It's going to be very hard to replace them."

Whitehall will be going into the game with momentum coming off a three set sweep Monday night over Sheridan.

The Lady Trojans came out strong in the first set with a 24-15 win over the Lady Panthers. Whitehall won the second sets, 25-17 and 25-14.

Welch had a strong game for the Lady Trojans with 13 assists, five aces, and three digs. Sepulveda had eight aces, seven kills, and two digs.

In other action last week, Whitehall lost a road matchup at Manhattan, 25-16, 25-18, and 25-17.

Welch had eight assists, Dorothy Mastel had seven digs, and Melton and Kyeli Ostler added five digs.

Whitehall also plays Saturday at Big Timber.
