Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

For Your Information

This is Red Ribbon Week at the school. Each day stresses a different theme. Monday was: Drugs are Ridiculous and students were wearing crazy, funny outfits. Tuesday was: Voting for my Future and the kids wore red, white, and blue. Wednesday, Turn your Back on Drugs, day had the students wearing their clothes backwards. Thursday is “Booze is a Snooze” and the kids got to wear their pajamas. Throughout the week poem, picture and poster contests were held as well as, relay races/obstacle courses, a drug awareness video and the school premises was arrayed with red ribbons!

Wes Norville left his home in Fairbanks, Alaska to fly to Montana to join his folks, Sue and Julian, for a quick trip to Tooele, Utah. Wes’s wife, Nancy and daughter, Angie, had flown directly to Salt Lake and were there to welcome the Montana Norvilles for an October Birthday celebration. Wes and Nancy’s other daughter, Melinda, is also a Utah resident. Saturday was the big day and Randy, Ashleigh and baby Max Norville joined the rest of the family and of course, Great-grandson, Max, was the center of attention since it was his first birthday. Wes, Sue and Julian came home on Sunday. Tim and Mike Norville and a cousin, Stan Hohn from Winston, spent Monday visiting with Wes before he had to fly back to Fairbanks on Tuesday. The visit was short, but wonderful, catching up with each other face to face.

I’ve mentioned before about Randy and Laurie Steel being here from their home in Paraguay for a few months. The delay that has kept them in Cardwell was Laurie’s neck and back pain issue, but a blessing disguise. Re-connecting with their home church at Cardwell and being able to see members of their family here has been encouraging. Since Laurie had a very successful surgery on her neck, they were able to drive to Lolo and visit Dick Powell before heading to the Spokane area to see Joel and Kim Powell and their boys. While there, the Steel’s son, Ryan, who was in military training (hostage training) in Washington, met them for a brief visit.

Claire Best’s daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Randy Barnes, were the recipient of an amazing gift from some folks who knew that the Barnes’ would never be able to afford a vacation aboard a cruise ship. After numerous years serving in Karachi, Pakistaan, they accepted the responsibility at the headquarters of the Mission Board in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Being the careful money managers that they are, they have guided the Mission financially and prepared a variety of people for service all over the world. The cruise to Alaska was a trip of a life time.

Girls basketball has begun. Katie Whitehurst, Anna Nelson, Annie Engler, Ellis Mastel, Sammy Clay, Faith Huss and Annabelle Welch make up the Lady Cougar team with Marta Nelson on the injured list, but should be able to play later in the season. Coach Savannah Rossiter has Wyatt Biggers and Nakoah Falcon as managers. A schedule will be announced soon.

Dawn Lewton has been doing some traveling. She spent a few days in San Diego with her parents, Charles and Dottie Hansen. After a few days home with catching up at the school and her work, she made a quick trip to Spokane to her son, Evan. Evan spent two months in Indonesia interning with his aviation program.

A long awaited and much planned trip to Orlando, Florida to enjoy Disney World and other points of interest, looked like it could be delayed as Hurricane Matthew tore up the Florida coast. Rhoda Powell said there was little evidence left even though the theme parks had been closed for a couple of days. Seth and Becky, Tait, Thad, Bill and Rhoda Powell spent 10 days enjoying the Florida weather and the area that was new to them.

Looking ahead to November. The Cardwell School has scheduled a Veteran’s Day Program for 1pm on November 10th.

More about that later. Plan to be there.
