The report from the Cardwell School tells us that the Student Council organized a great Halloween Carnival. Mrs Savannah Rossiter, teacher of the 1st and 2nd grades said, “I set out a bunch of decorations and art supplies and said ‘go ahead’! All of the decorating and setting up was up to them and it came together nicely. I was very pleased and impressed with all of the Student Council members. They worked hard, worked together and had great ideas throughout all of the planning stages. This group of kids are a bunch of go-getters; they are very fun to work with.” The many booths set up in the gym included - pumpkin ring toss, Jack-o-lantern bean toss, Spider race, (that sounds interesting.), Can toss, Bowling, Magic pumpkin, Pin the Eye Patch on the Pumpkin, Pumpkin Toss, Miniature golf, a costume contest and an art station.

Veterans will be honored at the Cardwell School this week on THURSDAY at 1pm in the gym. Students have to learn much about the sacrifices these men and women have made for all of us. It seems they are taught well by the staff and will present an appropriate program.

Later in the afternoon, Cardwell Lady Cougars will host the Harrison Jr. High girls. That competition will take place at 4 p.m.

Coming up will be the annual Thanksgiving on November 22 at noon. More details later.

Winterizing has taken place at the Museum - the sprinklers, etc. Arrangements are being completed for the purchase of the Archival safe flat file cases that has been possible from the Jefferson Valley Community Foundation Grant! These cases weigh 750 pounds each!! They will serve the Museum well and give opportunities to access the maps and other items that should be flat and protected. Arlene Weber put together the annual news letter, The Tumbleweed Trails, and it will be printed and in the mail by December 1st.

As the many ‘jobs’ that Roy did are taken on by all of the volunteers, more and more we realize just how much he was doing. (He did try to explain and show to us. It is just a lot!) Catherine Ellerton is still managing the Facebook page, even from Nevada. Volunteers are still working each Monday afternoon if someone needs to access or visit the Museum. A call can arrange an appointment.

Dannette Simon took that direct flight to Las Vegas, was met by her brother, Roy, and they traveled to Moab, Utah for a family wedding. Time was spent with Roy’s family in California before traveling back to Montana.

My neighbor and long time friend, Bette Stepan, recently sold her property and is making her home in Bozeman with her daughter and son-in-law, Bruce and Alora Forman. Frail in body but very strong in mind and spirit, she is known for her compassion and ‘note writing’. Even in her 80’s she can play the piano and organ, to say nothing of the accordion. Her visits and stops for coffee are truly missed. A couple of verses from her favorite chapter in the Bible are Psalm 34:1&3 “I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. O magnify the LORD with me, let us exalt His name together.”

Well, Glenn, the World Series is over and I understand that Paul has been pretty tough on you during the Fantasy Baseball season. You have to admit that spending Toby’s inheritance ceased when you finally put a Yankee on your team! Didn’t you finish in the top 5? (As did Paul.) smile

Along that line, Jeff Kreis has been a Cub’s fan since a child and a trip to see them in the World Series would be a dream come true. This was the time. Jeff’s employer invited him and another employee to be his guests to Chicago. Real loyalty rewarded! And his team came away the World Champs.

Just because the elections are over doesn’t mean that we should stop praying for the U.S.A.
