Whitehall junior Dawson Hoerauf (top position) was a perfect 7-0 over three days of home action last week.
Despite being shorthanded, the Whitehall High School wrestling team had some strong performances at two home events last week.
After opening the season with four individual champions at the Cascade Tournament, the Trojans hosted the Whitehall Mixer Thursday and the Whitehall Duals Friday and Saturday.
Coach Steve Sacry said the events in Whitehall were a good contrast to Cascade.
"The weekend focused on team scores over individual scores. In the dual tournament it is valuable to fill all the weight classes. With two out this week we were a little short in that regard, only being able to fill eight of the 13 weight classes," Sacry said. "Even so, the boys wrestled well."
In action Thursday, the Trojans were defeated by Huntley Project (43-12), and Butte High School JV (45-24).
Whitehall bounced back in impressive fashion Friday. Whitehall picked up wins over Ronan JV (33-21), Havre JV (36-6), and the Helena High JV (32-18). The Trojans lone defeat Friday was to the Bozeman High JV (48-23).
Sacry said on Friday they finished number two in their pool of five teams.
On Saturday, Whitehall picked up a 36-24 win over the Helena Capital JV, and fell to North Fremont High School (Idaho) 36-18, and the Butte High JV (36-31).
Sacry said on Saturday they finished five points (one match) out of placing.
Junior Dawson Hoerauf had a huge weekend for the Trojans in the 285-pound division. He kept his record perfect on the season with seven wins, six by way of pin.
Connor Johnson also had a strong weekend for Whitehall. The sophomore was 7-2 with four pins at 132 pounds. Senior Braxton Armstrong was 5-2 at 152 pounds, and had one pin.
Freshman Clancy Russell was 3-3 at 103 pounds and had one pin. Mike Wilkinson had a solid weekend for Whitehall at 113 pounds. He finished with a 5-3 record, all of the wins coming by pin.
Wyatt Powers was 4-3 with four pins at 145 pounds. Wyatt Scheller was 3-5 at 170 pounds, and recorded two pins. Kayden Howser was 3-5 at 205 pounds, and had two pins.
The team will be busy again this week, with the Great Falls Mixer Thursday, and the CMR Tournament set for Friday and Saturday.
