Trojans defeat Wolves

Going into last week's game against Three Forks, Whitehall High School boy's basketball coach Zach McLean wanted to see a better effort on the defense at the start of the game, as well as an emphasis on rebounding. The Trojans were strong in both areas in last Friday's nights 63-30 victory over the visiting Wolves.

After holding Three Forks to just 30 points, McLean said he told the team he was proud of their defensive effort. He added the Whitehall guards did a great job getting pressure on the Wolves early and that was a key.

"They came out with the energy level on the defensive end," he said.

Before the team took the court, McLean said he wrote "REBOUND" on the board in the locker room, and he was happy with how the team responded to the message.

Sophomore Max Feight led Whitehall in scoring with 21 points. Junior Wyatt Alexander was also strong for the Trojans with 14 points. Senior Andrew Simon was also in double figures with 12. Braden Larsen had eight points, and the trio Colton Noyes, Braden Smith, and Ryan Murphy each had two. Jake Flynn and Cade Briggs each had one point for Whitehall.

The Trojans were supposed to battle rival Jefferson County Saturday and Big Timber Monday, but both games were cancelled due to the recent winter storm.

While pleased with the team's performance, McLean said they had some uncharacteristic turnovers on offensive and they need to start moving the ball around to make things happen.

"I think we rely a lot on our one-on-one game and I don't like to see that. That stuff gets you in trouble late in the year," he said.
