Between the Stacks

Like many people around the country, I am currently watching “Victoria” on television every week. It is a wonderful historical drama about the life of Queen Victoria, one of Great Britain’s longest ruling monarchs.

She was only 18 years old when she ascended the throne in June of 1837 and during her lifetime her children and grandchildren would rule over many of the countries in Europe. Victoria reigned for over sixty years until her death in 1901. She was an interesting woman who spoke English, German, French, Italian and Latin; as well as being an accomplished musician and artist.

For those who want to know more about her, I just ordered new biography of her life entitled “Victoria the Queen: An Intimate Biography of the Woman Who Ruled an Empire” by Julia Baird.

The next session for Beginning Computer classes will begin in March.

Those taking this session will be advancing to harder skills. There are twelve places left in the March registration so sign up soon if you would like to start with the next session. We have had a great time this month discovering all the different things people know and don’t know about their computers.

Special things on the calendar this month include a second musical story time on February 22 and a library closing on February 20. The Library will be closed for President’s Day on the 22nd but open regular hours on Saturday the 18th. Donna Weldon will be leading the musical story times as always.

If you have a preschooler who loves to make a joyful noise, mark your datebook for this fun and loud singing experience.

The Library has two bulletin boards by the front door. One of them is to highlight library programs but the other one is for community events. If you are hosting an event or meeting and wish to let the public know about it, please bring us a poster to hang. We clean the bulletin boards off weekly so there is always room for new announcements.

Until next time, remember you can renew your materials by phone if you wish. Just call 287-3763 and we will be happy to extend your checkout times.
