Whitehall Districts Receive Clean Audit

At a special meeting last week, the Whitehall School Board of Trustees received an audit report for the 2016-17 school year from Debbie Ouellette of Newland and Company.

Ouellette reported the Whitehall School Districts not only had a clean audit, but had the highest possible ranking they could receive. Whitehall Superintendent John Sullivan said there were a few little findings they would be taking care of, but it was the best audit the districts have had in years.

In the regular board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved a proposal from Harlow’s Transportation to purchase a new activity bus for the district. Sullivan said they are hoping to have the bus by late September or early October and it will be used for athletics, activities, and field trips.

“We’re hoping it’s a good thing for our schools,” he said.

The district also conducted interviews last week for the science teacher position vacated by longtime teacher Todd Breitenfeldt. Sullivan said they are hoping to have a replacement soon.

The trustees also discussed the possibility of replacing the bleachers at the Whitehall High School Football Field. While no decision was made on the issue, Sullivan said the bleachers are a liability because of safety concerns, and they are looking to move to aluminum bleachers.

The board approved to rehire all tenured, and non-tenured teachers.

They also accepted the resignations of teacher Herman Gerving, cheer coach Jen Kopf, and cook’s assistants Tyler Lack and Shawn Smith.
