Trojans track team strong, district meet starts Friday

It was another week of tremendous individual performances by members of the Whitehall High School track team.

The Trojans opened up last week last Tuesday at the John Cheek Top 8 meet in Anaconda, and walked away with seven first place finishes.

Wyatt Alexander (100 meters), Hunter Flynn (800 meters), Braden Larsen (300 hurdles), the 1600-meter relay team (Steven Japhet, Clint Parks, Andrew Simon, and Flynn) and Ann Russell (100, 200 meters) all finished in first place for Whitehall.

Alexander finished third in the 200 meters, Flynn was second in the 1600, Larsen placed second in the 110 hurdles, Braden Smith finished third in the triple jump and Ann Russell placed second in the long jump.

Freshman Asha Noyes placed fourth in the 100, long jump, and high jump.

The Trojans wrapped up the week against some strong competition at the Butte Invitational, the same venue they will compete at state later this month.

Whitehall competed against Billings West, Missoula Sentinel, Butt, Manhattan, and Butte Central High School.

The top finishers for Whitehall were Feight who placed second in the 300 hurdles, and Alexander who placed second in the High Jump. Erik Reinschmidt placed third in the high jump. Feight qualified for state in the 110 hurdles and Russell qualified in the 200 meters.

"We performed well in Butte," head coach Dan Lacey said.

The team will next compete at the district track meet Friday and Saturday in Bozeman.

"The track team is performing well and has got better each meet. The biggest importance going into districts in to have their bodies totally healthy. We are taking it pretty easy this week and working on starts for sprinters and form with the jumpers. This is also a big week for our throwers who have marks that are right on he edge of going to divisionals. It should be an exciting district meet. Go Trojans," Lacey said.
