Whitehall's Max Feight competes in the 110 meter hurdle prelims at the MHSA State Track meet last Friday in Butte.

It was quite the weekend for Whitehall's Ann Russell.

One day before graduating, the senior made it to the podium at the MHSA State Track Meet in Butte, finishing fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.16.

"I as so proud to see Ann finally get to the podium," head coach Dan Lacey said. "She has worked so hard for the opportunity to have that feeling and it was awesome to see her achieve that."

Russell also finished 11th in the 100 meters, 15th in the 400 meters, and 20th in the long jump.

Trojan sophomore Max Feight had a strong meet, making it to the finals in the 110 meters. He qualified in eighth place in action Friday with a time of 15.92. He placed tenth in the finals with a time of 16.20.

"Watching Max run the hurdles this year and seeing him progressively get better was awesome. Running his fastest time of the year and making it to the finals at the state meet is a huge accomplishment as a sophomore. I forget sometimes that he is only a sophomore because his demeanor and competitiveness is contagious to be around," Lacey said.

Senior Hunter Flynn finished 12th in the 800 meters, and Feight was 14th in the 300 meters hurdles.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Feight, Andrew Simon, Steven Japhet and Flynn placed 19th.

Junior Braden Smith placed 13th in the Triple jump at 40-06 and Cade Briggs was 17th in the long jump at 19-05.50.

Wyatt Alexander competed for Whitehall in the 100 meters, finishing 16th in the preliminaries. The 4x100 relay team of Japhet, Feight, Smith and Alexander placed 14th after the prelims.

Looking back at his senior class, Lacey said they were a great group of kids that he had the pleasure to coach over the past four years.

"They have made the track program at Whitehall so much better and have paved the way for our younger athletes to follow suit," he said.

Whitehall's Ann Russell finished fifth in the 200 meters at the MHSA Class B State Track meet in Butte.
