Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

For Your Information

Who would have thought that ‘garbage’ could become such an issue? There was a great turnout for the meeting with the Madison County Solid Waste Board. The Ledger editor has complete information on another page. It is going to take some research on the part of the Board to come to a resolution. Oh, for the time when we could use our own dumps to dispose of all that junk. I think that it was cheaper, too.

Steve and Coral Powell Lowry celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by sponsoring a day for the ‘Your Network of Praise’ radio station. The Lowrys live in Sun River, but Coral grew up in Cardwell. Steve was a Grizzly - too bad. smile

Kathy and Michael Clark were duo winners at the Pinochle Club’s afternoon of cards.

Hostess, Margaret Irish, gave Kathy the prize for High and Michael for Low. Lucile Buchanan placed Second and Renee Webster won Pinochle. Guest was Evie Ellis. Renee will be the next hostess.

Last week I got acquainted with a young man named Caleb. He is the grandson of Bob and Connie Sims and was spending a few days on the ranch. The Sims live on the North Boulder and 5-year-old Caleb lives in the Gallatin Valley.

Grinder Espresso celebrated a 6th year anniversary by giving special deals on all of the drinks. Emily is serving fresh squeezed lemonade now and I can vouch for its quality! It’s a welcome icy cold drink these days!

The Whitehall Post Office and the Postal system general is losing one of the most amazing employees who have served the public. Val Houtzel has retired after 32 years. With no fanfare, Val just quietly said good-bye and is now enjoying several days with a grandson, Connley Burkhardt. Connley will be taken North and his Mom, Jill, will meet him on the U.S. side of the border - the Burkhardts live in Canada. It’s been 20 years since the Houtzels moved here from Illinois. Their first home was a small two bedroom house in Jefferson Island which they did some needful repairs to. Jill and brother, Ryan, enrolled in school and finished in Whitehall. Ryan and his family live in Havre. Dennis Houtzel put his carpenter skills to good work and built a lovely home and outbuildings on the Altenbach ranch that they purchased.

My calendar for June 26 has ‘Priceless Gifts to Give for Free’. The gift of a compliment: A simple and sincere, “you look good in red,” “You did a super job,” or “That was a wonderful meal,” can make someone’s day.
