Editorial: Thanks for running for office

A total of six candidates have filed for the four open positions in the upcoming Town of Whitehall elections.

The Ledger would like to take time to personally thank each and every candidate that stepped up to the plate and made the decision to run for office.

Serving as a Mayor or on the Council in any town has a lot of challenges, and often times it can be more difficult in a smaller town. The position requires many hours of meetings, research, as well as being a visible part of the community at a variety of events. The hours are far more than just the regular meeting the second Monday of every month.

While the positions do often come with praise for a job well done, there is also a great deal of scrutiny for a variety of avenues. Long gone are the days where criticism only comes from a conversation between friends or at a diner, in a newspaper editorial, or a letter to the editor.

The day and age of social media has created a unique and very American way for people to express their views for both praise and criticism.

At the end of the day, most candidates are not running because they care about what people think of them, they are doing it because they care about where they live.

In the next few weeks, the Ledger is planning to do articles about the candidates and would also like to use this editorial as a way to ask them to contact us so we can set up interviews.

Thanks again for your decision to run for office and good luck in the election.
