I have this little bar at the bottom of my computer that helps you find information. So, I asked for the words to “God Bless America”, by Irving Berlin. Wow! I had a wonderful time listening to myriads of patriotic music and eventually found the first time Berlin’s song was introduced to America. It was 1938 and sung by Kate Smith. The opening words “As the storm clouds gather, far across the sea”, were very appropriate as Hitler was gaining power in Europe.
