Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Editorial: Thanks for all you do 4 Paws, Reed's Rescue

Earlier this month, I was walking back to the Ledger from the post office when something caught my attention. I was a little past the Star Theater when I saw a baby kitten curled up in the shade. The weather had been nearing 100 on the day and the poor thing looked miserable.

I knew that if I did not do anything about the situation, the kitten who looked to be around five weeks would probably not make it through the day. She was not in good shape. I’m not sure if she was lost, dumped, or something happened to the mother, but that did not matter. The kitten needed immediate attention so I took action.

The unfortunate reality is this happens far too often in both Whitehall and Jefferson County. It is not a local problem either. It happens everywhere.

While it is a problem, the local area is also blessed to have two organizations that help rescue and foster animals.

The Ledger would like to give a huge thank you to 4 Paws Rescue and Reed’s Rescue and Rehabilitation. These are both volunteer organizations and we are lucky to have them in our area.

Volunteers with both organizations not only donate hours of their time, but they open their homes to foster animals in need. It takes someone special to do this. We can’t thank you enough. They need to be recognized and given a big pat on the back.

When I saw the kitten the other day I knew action was needed. These volunteers do this on a daily basis. This says a lot about them and the kindness of the community.

And as for an update on the little kitten – “Little Jerusha” is doing great.
