Between the Stacks

Fall is rapidly approaching and things are in full swing at the Library. This fall we will be offering Art Camp for children Kindergarten through 5th grade. The classes will run for six weeks beginning September 11 at 4:00 p.m. If you would like to participate or have your child come join the fun, please call to register at 287-3763. There is limited space and we want to make sure there are enough supplies for everyone. The classes will be based around famous art works from history, with the students then creating their own works reflecting the time period. There will be classes on pottery, painting, hieroglyphics, textile art, watercolors, and more.

Speaking of classes, the computer class schedules are up and running. If you would like to take a Beginning, Advanced, or Advanced 2 computer class please call the Library to sign up. If you pre-registered last spring, please call and let us know if you are still taking the class.

History Book Club will meet this month on Monday, August 21 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss this month’s selection of “Undaunted Courage”. We will also be choosing a new book for September from a variety of works on Anne Boleyn, World War II, the Civil War, and several historical fiction novels. The History Book Club normally meets the last Monday of the month but due to Shakespeare in the Park on August 28, the meeting was moved so everyone could enjoy both events.

Story Time will move back to its regular time on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. This year we will be hosting a special story time for the children in childcare at 9:30 a.m. then our regular crowd will meet for their normal time at 10:30. The second Wednesday of every month will be special musical story times with our own Donna Weldon.

I am also working with others to develop a kids coding group and a robotics club. Stand by for more information on both of those projects.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for Labor Day. The Library will be closed on Monday, September 4 but will be open on Saturday.
