Between the Stacks

It is such a pleasure to work in a town where everyone loves their library! For those of you who are always asking how to help support the Library, here is your chance. The Friends of the Whitehall Community Library will be having a meeting on October 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Library. They will be recruiting new members, planning fall activities, and getting to know who the Friends are and what they do. The Friends do many things to spread information about Library programs, assist with special events, raise and donate money for all types of programs, and much more. If you would like to become a Friend please come and join the fun. If you have any questions, please feel free to call and ask us at 287-3763, or stop by. The Friends are revamping their information pamphlets and they will be ready before the meeting.

The Library will be closed for Columbus Day on October 9th. We will be open on the Saturday before from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on Tuesday the 10th at regular hours.

The History Book Club will be meeting on October 2 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss “the Zookeeper’s Wife”. We will also meet on October 30 to discuss “The Monuments Men”. Both books take place during the Second World War in Europe but deal with different aspects of the conflict. The Library provides all of the books for the club and new members are always welcome.

Story Time is going strong on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. All children, ages 3-6 are welcome to come and enjoy stories, crafts, and special guests. There is a Story Time calendar available at the front desk so parents may plan ahead to attend our special musical sessions on the second Wednesday of every month.

For those of you who enjoy collecting used books, the Library has received many new donations of both hardback and softback books. All of the duplicates and subjects the collection already has multiple volumes on are put on the sale shelf. The money from the book sales goes directly to the Friends to fund summer reading, special events, extra library materials, and more. If you buy 10 books or more the price is cut in half for all of the books! What a great way to spend a cold fall day, curled up with a wonderful book.
