Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

If I had a permit, and a gun, and knew how to use it, I could have a bear rug in my bedroom. Two nights in a row, Mr. Bear paid me a visit and was very helpful the second night by pruning one of my apple trees.

I had trouble with a bear and some others had issues with elk. Rachel Dawson demolished her car on her early morning drive to Bozeman to work. It Highway 69 where she tangled with the elk. She was not seriously hurt at all!! Al Johnson, on his way to pick up school students, had an encounter with an elk near the Sunlight Mine area, The accident delayed the scheduled drop off at the school but did not delay the field trip to the pumpkin patch by much. The school got the ‘old’ bus out and the school made the trip, not only to the Pumpkin Patch, but also to the making of apple cider and a tour of the special candy factory that has become a traditional part of that special day.

A special announcement - The meeting planned for November 9th here at my house for the Centennial plans for the Cardwell School has to be re-scheduled. Look for the information in next week’s Ledger. In the meantime, let your friends and family know about the date of August 4, 2018 for the Centennial. Facebook will be very helpful.

News of the passing of Bette Stepan was received on Sunday morning. This was the lady that had a reputation of sending greetings to everyone. Always encouraging and caring. Her stops by for coffee and a chat have been missed greatly for the past year and a half since her health required her to move to Bozeman with her daughter, Lori, and her family. Bette turned 87 in June and was pretty housebound, but never lost her sweetness. Saturday, October 28, at 1pm there will be graveside services at the South Boulder Cemetery followed by the memorial service at 2pm at the Cardwell Community Church. Revelation 14:13 “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on, yes, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works follow them.”

From death to new life - A baby shower for Hayden Alan Racicot, born Sept. 19, 2017, was held at the Cardwell Pavillion on Sunday afternoon. It was a family affair - guys, too. Friends of Asheli and Matt Racicot hosted the chili feed and a variety of games for the crowd that welcomed little Hayden. It was a beautiful day, except for the gusty winds.

Auden and Marilla Parker shared a birthday celebration. Dave and Axon hosted the evening for the many relatives that came to honor the sisters. Auden was celebrating 7 years and Marilla 4 years.

I have to comment on the football players representing Cardwell on the undefeated Trojans team in Whitehall. We can claim Braden Smith - a Cardwell Cougar at one time. He played his final conference game during Senior Night. Garrison Shaw played his last conference game on Senior Night, as well, and is looking forward to the post season which will begin on Saturday at lpm at Trojan field. Sawyer Keener has been a ‘stand-out’ for Whitehall this season. He has made his presence felt in every game. Sort of reminds me of Walter Payton - small, but tough and called ‘sweetness’. That is Sawyer. Such a gentleman, but watch out opposing teams. Sawyer would like to hone his skills to be good enough for college ball. He still has another year to play for the Trojans. These young men are key players for the success (9 - 0) for the Trojans. Great Work!!
