Local schools hosting Veteran's Day programs

Area students have been busy preparing for Veteran’s Day programs scheduled in Whitehall and Cardwell.

The Cardwell program will take place Thursday, November 9 at 9 a.m., while the Whitehall event will take place Friday, November 10 at 10:30 a.m. in the Varsity Gym.

Local Veterans and residents are invited to attend both programs.

“Roll call” forms for the Whitehall program can be found in this edition of the Ledger or at the school offices.

Prior to the 2016 program, Whitehall School Musical Director Janet Heilig said when preparing, she feels it is important for students to realize they belong to an entire community, not just a school.

“They are a part of something bigger than themselves. We talk about what the day means, who our guests will be, and they get to share about family members that they know in the military,” she said.

Students are currently learning new music for the program, and Heilig said they take it very seriously because they want to do a good job.

“I have had many students tell me that this is a favorite performance of the year because it means something. It’s great to hear that, they understand why we do the program,” she said.
