Speech team ready for 'fun' 17-18 season

Just days before their first meet of the season last Saturday at Missoula Loyola, members of the Whitehall High School speech team were not only looking forward to competition, they had their sights set on a lot of fun during the 2017-18 campaign.

The team will return Bradley Morrison, Rebecca Meyer, Alicia Konold and Issie Brookins, and welcome newcomer Austin Schwab. The coach of the Whitehall team is Cathy Kopf.

Morrison and Schwab will both be competing in Humorous Oral interpretation. Morrison looks forward to reacquainting with people he met last year and has high hopes for another fun year. Schwab is excited to make some new friends as well as the friendship with his new teammates.

Brookins will be competing in the Impromptu Speaking event, and also said she is excited to have another fun season.

Meyer will also be taking part in Impromptu Speaking and along with making friends and having fun, she said being in speech is an opportunity to get better at life.

Konold will be competing in Dramatic Interpretation.

Kopf carried the same message of the team having fun this year, but said the public speaking experience really helps the kids later in life. Kopf said she really enjoyed seeing the members of the team last year "really coming out of their shells."

LOYOLA RESULTS

Kopf said the competition at Loyola was tough with schools in classes AA, A, B, and C also attending. She said unfortunately, Whitehall did not have any finalists. Competing were Issie Brookins in Impromptu, and Morrison, and Austin Schwab in Humorous Oral Interpretation. The team will next compete December 2nd in Townsend.
