Trojans split weekend games

Following a 50-47 home loss to Three Forks last Friday night, Whitehall High School boys basketball Coach Zach McLean was hoping for a better start from his team in their Saturday matchup against rival Jefferson High School. The Trojans did just that, taking a 14-3 lead at the end of the first quarter of their 57-47 victory.

"In our first four games we had one good start -- and that was the very first game. That's what our focus was (Saturday), and we came out great," McLean said.

Whitehall (4-1, 1-1 Southern B), would take a 29-22 lead into half, but a scrappy Panther team led by Josh Eckman who had 21 points would cut the lead to within three in second half. McLean said the team answered the Boulder run, and stepped up and made plays when they needed to.

"That's what it takes to get a conference win," he said.

The Trojans were led by Wyatt Alexander who had a game high 23 points.

McLean also praised the play of Braden Smith, Cade Briggs, and Alexander on defense.

In their Friday matchup against the Wolves, Whitehall fell behind 16 to 8 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 30 to 21 at half.

Despite the loss, McLean said his team defended well and holding a team to 50 and under is really good.

Junior Max Feight led the team in scoring with 25 points. Alexander had nine, Ryan Murphy finished with five, Smith had four, and Briggs and Justin Gipson each had two points.
