Trojan wrestlers finish third

The Whitehall High School wrestling team had six wrestlers place on their way to a third place finish at last week's Choteau Tournament.

According to assistant coach Steve Sacry, the tournament featured 31 Class B/C teams, and Whitehall only finished behind Malta and Thompson Falls.

"That high of a placing requires a full team effort. I was proud of all the boys," Sacry said.

Senior Dawson Hoerauf finished in first place, Dawson Powers placed second, and Connor Johnson ended the tournament in third place. Mike Wilkinson and Kayden Howser both placed fifth, and Gaten Wassberg finished in sixth place.

"This was a great opportunity to see wrestlers from other parts of the state and to help set strategies for the state tournament," Sacry said.

SENIOR NIGHT

Senior members of the team, Hoerauf and Howser, were honored prior to the Trojans annual Mixer last Tuesday at Varsity Gym.

Sacry said it was great to see so many people there for the kids and the senior night activities went very well. Whitehall was strong at the event that featured conference foes Deer Lodge, Boulder, Manhattan, and Three Forks.

"Overall the boys were 24-4 against the divisional opponents, with everyone having at least one win, most by pin. A very dominant performance," Sacry said.

The team has changed their schedule for this week. Instead of traveling to Highwood, they will compete Saturday at Great Falls Central.
