Trojans open postseason Thursday

The Whitehall High School tennis team will open the postseason when they host the 2018 Southeast Divisional B/C Tournament Thursday to Saturday in Belgrade.

According to head coach Kerry Sacry, the matches will take place at Belgrade High School which is located at 600 Spooner Drive. The tournament will feature host Whitehall, Broadwater (Townsend), Three Forks, Jefferson High (Boulder) and Lone Peak.

The Lady Trojans will have four players in singles. Kyeli Ostler is the top seed for the team, Britney Welker is seeded two, Dorothy Mastel is seeded three, and Alicia Konold is seeded fourth. In the first round, Konold will face off against fourth seeded Emma Bohem of Three Forks. The winner will face number two seeded Leah Vossler of Boulder.

Ostler, Welker, and Mastel will open competition in the second round of the double elimination tournament. The top four singles players will advance to the state tournament.

Ostler will open against third seeded Breanna Humphrey of Boulder. Welker will face off against fourth seeded Abbie Supalla of Boulder, and Mastel will square off against third seeded Amanda Bergstad of Broadwater.

Whitehall will also have two doubles teams at the tournament. The number one seeded team of Evelin Dove and Amber Murrish will open in the second round against top seeded Kylie Marks and Laurynn Armstrong of Boulder.

The number two team of Madison Homer and Macee Patritti will open in the first round against Quincee Starz and Mikkie Boas of Boulder.

The squad was able to prep for the postseason with two home matches last week -- including two strong performances Thursday.

The Lady Trojans picked up an impressive 5-1 victory Thursday over visiting Three Forks.

Ostler picked up a 8-1 win at number one singles, Welker won 8-0 at number two singles, and Mastel picked up a 8-2 victory at number three singles. The number one doubles team of Dove and Murrish won 8-1, and the number two team of Homer and Patritti picked up a 8-2 win.

Whitehall tied their other match of the day 3-3 against Jefferson High School of Boulder. Ostler, Mastel, and Konold all picked up wins in singles action.

The Lady Trojans also played some great tennis during a week tournament in Choteau. Whitehall was victorious 3-2 over Chester-Joplin-Iverness with Welker, Ostler, and Konold all picking up wins. The Lady Trojans were very impressive against Harlem, walking away with a 5-1 victory. Ostler, Welker, Mastel, and Konold all picked up wins in singles, and Dove and Murrish were winners in doubles action.

Whitehall split a match 2-2 against Chinook with Ostler and Welker both victorious.
