Elizabeth "Liz" Hemen

Elizabeth "Liz" Hemen, 91, long time Butte resident passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2018 with her family by her side at the Spring Assisted living facility.

Liz is survived by Marie Engstedt, Carol Bock, Linda and Greg Vandersnick, Tim and Pat Near. She is also survived by 29 grand children, 33 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grand child and 1 great-great grand child on the way. Liz was pre-deceased by her husband Duane Hemen, son Rick Near, brothers Alvin and Norman Nelson, parents Nels and Mabel Nelson, son-in-laws David Bock and Carl Engstedt, daughter-in-law Christine Near and grandson Kevin Bock and great grandson Taylor Wells.

Liz loved fishing and camping and baking apple pies. She loved her yard and her raspberry patch. She maintained them on her own until she was 85. Liz delighted in spending time with her children, grand children and great grand children. Liz was a volunteer on the Rocky Mountain Development Council Senior Companion program for 17 years. She assisted seniors much younger than her with grocery shopping, transportation and companionship and loved serving them.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11 :00 AM at Gold Hill Lutheran Church, 934 Place Street, Butte, MT with a luncheon to follow at the church.
