Whitehall School play set for Nov. 8, 9

It's once again time for the annual fall play from the Whitehall High School drama department.

The performances of "Happy Birthday Dear Grandpa" are set for Thursday, November 8 and Friday, November 9 at 7 p.m.

First year director Marci Whitehurst said the play is a family farce farce in which three grandchildren find themselves caring for their 96-year-old grandfather.

The cast for the play includes Allee Scafani as Claire, Karlie Wagner as Frankie, Maggie Whitehurst as Amber, Charlynn Mercer as Ms. Skaminski, Marissa Ellison as Inspector Macy, Adam Williams as Grandpa, and Dalaney Scafani as Mrs. Kelly and the Police Officer. Katie Whitehurst and Madison Loomis are the stage crew.

"I am thankful for the opportunity to work with these kids. I've worked with middle school theater students before, but I love working with high school students as well. So far, we have laughed a lot and learned a lot. Anytime you start something new or different there are things to discover in the process and so far the process has been rewarding," Marci said. "Directing this cast has been wonderful. The kids get along well and they are all working hard to put on a great show. Cheri Shaw ran a wonderful drama program and we are all excited about continuing the tradition. We are growing while having a lot of fun. We look forward to performing for the community," she said.

The play was written by Michal Jacot and according to Whitehurst, a cantankerous grandfather is convinced the grandkids are trying to "do him in" so they can have his vast fortune of $642 and his post card collection. She said the grandkids throw grandpa a birthday party, but events do not go as planned.
