Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Meeting to discuss new Veterans home

An informational meeting about the Southwest Montana Veterans' Home is set to take place Friday, November 30 at the Whitehall Community Center. The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

According to local Veteran Gary Redfern, the meeting will also focus on finding a committee member for a foundation focused on raising money for basic expenses for future residents of the 60-bed facility that will be located south of Butte.

The foundation committee will include representatives from six counties.

United States Senator Jon Tester announced in March he had helped secure funding to build the long-awaited Southwest Montana Veterans Home in Butte.

"This is a huge victory for Butte and a long overdue win for Veterans across southwest Montana," Tester said. "This happened because Montanans spent years working together on a real solution for veterans in Butte and the surrounding communities. I will be holding the VA accountable to make sure that construction gets underway quickly."

A release from the office of Tester said the funding for the Southwest Montana Veterans Home will provide care for 60 elderly veterans in state-of-the-art cottage residencies, bringing new jobs and millions of dollars in yearly economic impact to Butte.
