Trojans wrestlers compete in Bozeman

The Whitehall High School wrestling team faced off against some strong competition at last week's Tom LeProwse Invitational in Bozeman.

Assistant Coach Steve Sacry said the invitational is designed as a Class AA tournament and the Trojans were one of the few Class B Schools who competed among the 29 teams.

"It is good for us to see that level of competition and see how we stack up," he said.

Leading the way for the Trojans was Dawson Powers who finished in seventh place at 113 pounds. Sacry said there were 21 wrestlers in the division and Powers defeated opponents from Butte, Great Falls CMR, Flathead, and Powell, WY.

"He (Powers) consistently wrestles well and we are excited to see how he does the rest of the season," he said.

Unfortunately for Whitehall, the team had to deal with several injuries at the tournament.

"Two days of this caliber of wrestling is quite physically demanding and we were unfortunate to have some injuries. Both Connor Johnson and Riley Forcella sustained injuries the first day that kept them from wrestling the second. The second day, Trentin Walker and Brody Becker were also injured. We anticipate, with a little rest and recovery time, all four will be back on the mat soon," Sacry said.

Whitehall wrestlers who were eliminated from the varsity tournament were able to compete in the JV tourney.

"Everyone wrestled hard and continues to improve," Sacry said.

This week the team hosted their annual Mixer Tuesday and will travel Friday to Choteau.

Sacry said it will be all Class B Schools and will give the team a good look at some of the state tournament competition.

"I anticipate we will have a good week ahead," Sacry said.
