Lady Trojans bounce back from first loss with win over Loyola

One night after dropping their first game of the season, the Whitehall High School girls basketball team responded in impressive fashion with a 59-57 road victory over a strong Missoula Loyola team.

The Lady Trojans (9-1, 4-1 5B) lost Friday night 52-34 against the top ranked team in the state Townsend.

"I was glad the girls were able to shake that tough loss off from Friday. It was good for us to have to play another tough road game the next night against another tough opponent," said head coach Kelly Nieskens.

Whitehall was led in scoring by freshman Brynna Wolfe with 25 points.

Nieskens said it really shows the maturity Wolfe has as a player to forget about the tough night before and really have a big scoring night for the team.

"We really learned as a team how we need to respond to big games. Friday was the first real big game for every player in the locker room. We need to put ourselves in positions to win those type of games," Nieskens said.

Asha Noyes added 17 points in the victory over the Lady Breakers and Nieskens said the junior is really playing well right now.

"We need to follow her example," he said.

Meagan Johnson added seven points, Jada Clarkson finished with six, and Kendra Klapan had four points.

Whitehall will return home this week with a Thursday game against Anaconda and a Saturday matchup against Boulder.
