Whitehall boys defeat Anaconda, rival Jefferson

The Whitehall High School boys basketball team took care of business last week with two convincing home victories.

The Trojans picked up a 58-41 win Thursday night over Anaconda and finished the week in style Friday with a 57-46 win over Jefferson High School, completing the regular season sweep of the rival Panthers.

Whitehall jumped out of the gates early against the Copperheads and had a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and 29-18 lead at half.

The Trojans were led in scoring by senior standout Clay Wolfe with 21. Freshman Brendan Wagner had another solid game for Whitehall with 13, Cade Briggs added 11, Dylan Smith finished in double figures with 10 and Bo Hays added three points.

Head Coach Zach McLean discussed the importance of the strong start for his squad.

“One thing I was pleased with is they were ready from the start. That was huge,” he said.

McLean was also pleased with the way his team bounced back from their last conference game, a 48-28 loss at Townsend.

“Getting home and getting a win his nice,” he said.

McLean was impressed with the defensive play of his team.

“Us being able to defend is going to keep us in games. It’s kept us in games all year long,” he said.

Whitehall will travel Thursday for a matchup against Three Forks and will host undefeated Big Timber Saturday.

The Trojans are currently in third place in district play. Big TImber is in first, and Three Forks is in second.
