Sandbags available at Town Rec Complex

During her monthly report at Monday's Whitehall Town Council meeting, Mayor Mary Janacaro Hensleigh reminded residents that sandbags are available at the Recreation Complex.

Hensleigh said with the all the snow Whitehall has had she thinks it is important for everyone to be aware and plan ahead because she is sure there is going to be some flooding.

Hensleigh also addressed the postponement of the monthly meeting originally scheduled for March 11. She said by law they have to post the meeting agenda and because the post office did not put up an agenda, they had to postpone the meeting until March 18. She added they will also be posting at the library starting next month.

The annual spring clean is set for April 23 to 26 and Hensleigh said high school students will once again be involved and this is also a good time to sign up for the town adopt an alley program.

She reported they are currently hiring for the summer swimming pool season and those interested can pick up an application at town hall. Hensleigh added a second gazebo is being placed at the pool.

The town has also hired a third public works employee.

In his report to the Council, Assistant Fire Chief Joe Granvold discussed the IamResponding program the department has been using. He said they have been trying to get everyone to use the app on their cell phones and believes it is a good thing for the department because he can look at his phone and see who is and isn't coming to a fire. Granvold added the town has used up their two-month free trial and will be purchasing a one-year plan.

Whitehall Clerk/Treasurer Summer Fellows gave an update on a contract with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. She said a committee with Sheriff Craig Doolittle, County Attorney Steve Haddon, Commissioner Leonard Wortman and town officials would be meeting soon and they are getting closer to the department being in the old town hall building.
