Earlier this month, Whitehall resident Francine Giono traveled to Washington D.C. to take part in the 2019 EMS on the Hill Day.
Giono was one of three Montana members of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians who traveled to the April 10 event in the Nation's Capital.
According to the NAEMT, the purpose of EMS On The Hill Day is to educate all members of Congress and their staff on the emergent, urgent and preventive patient care EMS provides to all in need every day.
Giono said it felt great to be able to represent Jefferson Valley EMS and Whitehall at the annual event that featured representatives from 38 states and Puerto Rico.
During the day, NAEMT members shared the latest information on implementation of the new ET3 payment opportunity, and cost data collection, a status report on the DEA's implementation of the new law on standing orders and an update on EMS drug shortages, details of new EMS legislation and how it can impact you and your agency and meetings with your House Representative and Senators.
Giono was able to provide Senator Jon Tester with information and asking for support of funding for supporting and improving Rural EMS Needs (SIREN) Law, H.R. 1309 (The Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act), H.R. 1646 (The Helping Emergency Responders Overcome (HERO) Act, H.R. 1241 (The Volunteer Responder Incentive Program) and the impact of drug shortages on EMS patients.
