Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Cross country opens in Boulder

There will be a mix of experience and youth on the 2019 Whitehall High School Cross Country team.

Longtime head coach Kerry Sacry reported four junior high and nine high schoolers joined the team who will open the season Saturday, August 31 at the Jefferson High School meet in Boulder.

Sacry is pleased with the turnout but said he would like to have one more girl join so they would be able to have a team score at the end of meets.

The top leading returner for the Trojans is senior Madison Loomis. A three-year standout in the program, Sacry said Loomis had a strong track season and it has carried over to the fall. He also highlighted newcomer Katie Whitehurst who is in her first year with the team after nabbing all-state honors last year in track. Sacry said he expects big things from both, adding they have both led by example to the younger members. Macee Patritti will also return this season.

On the boys side, junior Dawson Powers is a top returner for the Trojans. Sacry said Powers has been running strong. He added while the other runners on the boys team are younger they are good.

Sacry feels the season opening meet in Boulder will give the kids a great chance to get a feel for running a 5K and get their nerves out.
