Karina's Cafe Closing its Doors

A popular Whitehall restaurant is closing its doors later this month.

Karina's Café announced through a Facebook post last week they would be permanently closing the business that served breakfast and lunch on June 20.

"After much consideration concerning familial changes, financial challenges, and the current climate, we have decided that our energy and resources will be better spent elsewhere. This Pandemic has opened our eyes to how dependent we and Karina's were on to corporate entities. While we strived and succeeded to use local where possible, the holes in our supply became obvious," owner Karina Snider said in the Facebook post.

The business was originally opened by Andre and Melissa Snitko in 2012 and operated at 14 East Legion until 2015. The restaurant was reopened in January of 2018 by Karina Snider, daughter of Andre and Melissa.

The restaurant has a motto of "Just Good Food...Naturally", and in a 2018 interview, Karina said that this can be often times be misunderstood with people thinking they are a health food place or something of that nature. She said what they are trying to let people know is they will use the most natural and highest quality of ingredients possible, staying away from highly processed foods and artificial ingredients.

While the business is closing, Snider said they will continue to bake breads and pastries and will have more information about this in the near future.

"We are looking into collaborating within our community to utilize local resources and create a vehicle so that all will have access. Words cannot express the appreciation we have for the support of our patrons through the years."
